Letter to Mrs. Sudha Murthy

12 Dec 2010 20:16:19

After a gruelling saturday, I felt I should surrender myself to a good read today. As in the evening I promised a chat with a friend I thought the reading should complete withing 6 in the evening. I was reading a book named as "Wise and Otherwise" by Sudha Murthy. So I thought I should continue with the same today. After reading the book I couldnt stop myself writing the following letter to Mrs. Murthy which I will post tomorrow.

Mr and Mrs Murthy at launch of Wise and Otherwise
Mr. and Mrs. Murthy at the launch of Wise and Otherwise

Dear Mrs. Murthy,

How are you? It is my great honour to write a letter to you. Before telling anything let me congratulate you for your sixtieth birthday in August. God bless you with good health and happiness.

I never knew you four years back. I came to know about you from a good friend of mine who had read your book "Wise and Otherwise". My friend didnt stop showering praises on you. That prompted me to know more about you and read your books. I would thank my friend to tell me about the book. Because of that I came to know about you and the books which you had written.

I am just spell bound by the way you had narrated one of your book "Gently falls the bakula"(This book I read before Wise and Other wise. I was able to visualize the life of Shrimati in front of my eyes, her pain ,suffering and the way she takes a bold step. Your writing gently reminded me of our legendary writer R K Narayan. Somewehere I could relate both of you wanted to share what really happens in the Indian society.

For me Wise and Otherwise is certainly a first kind of book which tries to make you ponder upon what goes in the society. I would say you have touched every aspect of the Indian society without race or caste. You have very well narrated the small incidents in your life and what lessons each incident taught you. The series of 51 short stories speaks volumes about your true personality and nature.

Every story were quite unique and teaches many important life lessons. You just made sure you have put your own experience in such simplistic words which makes it to read by everyone. I hope people will learn more about life by reading your book. You have mainly concentrated on the social issues which the children or women or youth face these days. That shows how much you are deeply involved in the philanthropic activities to bring smile in some one else face.

Some of the stories which created a lasting impression in me is of a young kid who gives you Rs.300 back for the help which you offered to him. The way you appreciated your teacher who teaches you some very important life lessons. The amount of pain you feel in your eyes by seeing someone suffer. In the end I would say it was an enriching experience to read your book.

Mrs.Murthy a big congratulations to you for continuously working hard for the betterment of the society. I pray God bless you from above to give you courage and will to do tha same work in future with same energy and enthusiasm. I may be a very small person to wish you. But take it as a generous wish.

Signing off with respects and wishes. And with a hope that more tears you wipe and more books you write.

Moral : Must read for everyone.
